Indonesia
About three days ago, my sister flew home from Indonesia. Her plane arrived from Tokyo, I’m rather jelous that she got to sit in the tokyo airport. Which according to her is the most boring airport she’s been to. Still! It’s bloody Tokyo! Anywho, she had been in Indonesia for two years living with a family that had her homeschool their kids.
Overall we’re glad she’s home, we had a few scares while she was there. The Tsunami was a big one, but we later learned that she was on an island that wasn’t effected by it. Some bombings, they were close to her but nothign really to worry about.
It’s an interesting country. Heres two things she brought back that I received as gifts:
You can’t REALLY see it, (stupid webcam camera) but the first is a map of indonesia. The second is a pen that’s has a puppet on it. The charecter on the top is usualy a puppet that tells the story of hindu in that culture. She has some other cool thigns…but I’d have to go find them
The culture shock isn’t so bad it seems, but she has a few odd mannerisms. Like reaching for food with your left hand is innapropriate, or she says words in Indonesian instead of english. Little things like that. Oh yea, and she’s cold as heck. It was a rather constant 30 Above or more there, and she had to wear modest clothing. (it’s a prodominatly Muslim area) Here it’s maybe 15 to 20 above area.
I keep on saying things like “So yea on MYspace” or “Do you like Jack Johnson?” and she has no idea what the hell I’m talking about.
